Home Savings & Loan | Wesbanco, Howland Branch

Located at 4625 North River Road in Howland Township near Warren, Ohio, the Home Savings and Loan Howland Branch was designed by Phillips Sekanick Architects as a full-service financial institution serving customers throughout Trumbull County. Opened in 2000, the branch expanded the presence of one of the Mahoning Valley’s best-known financial institutions into the growing Howland market. Federal banking records confirm that the location has remained continuously active for more than 25 years.

Phillips Sekanick Architects designed the branch to provide a recognizable and professional banking environment while supporting the operational requirements of a modern financial institution. The project reflects the firm’s experience coordinating customer-service areas, administrative and banking functions, accessibility, security, site planning, and the technical requirements associated with financial facilities. The project was constructed by Alex Downie & Sons Company, a longstanding regional contractor whose documented financial-institution clients included Home Savings and Loan.

The Howland branch became more than a traditional neighborhood bank. Over time, Home Savings also used the facility to provide wealth-management and private-banking services, demonstrating the flexibility and continued usefulness of the building as the institution’s services evolved.

The building’s continued operation also reflects the changing history of regional banking. Home Savings, founded in Youngstown in 1889, became Premier Bank in 2020, and Premier subsequently became part of WesBanco in 2025. The original Phillips Sekanick-designed Howland facility continues today as the WesBanco Howland Branch at the same 4625 North River Road location.

The Home Savings Howland Branch demonstrates Phillips Sekanick Architects’ experience in financial institution architecture, bank branch design, commercial architecture, site planning, and long-term client-focused facilities. More than two decades after completion, the building continues to serve its original financial-services purpose, illustrating how thoughtful architecture can accommodate changing organizations, technologies, and customer needs over time.
