Located on a historic property in Nelson Township near Garrettsville, Ohio, the Bella Dawn Event Center, designed by Phillips Sekanick Architects, transformed an 1850s building—formerly a church and general store—into a distinctive wedding and special-event venue serving Northeast Ohio. The renovation preserves defining historic elements, including hand-hewn timber beams and exposed wood walls, while integrating contemporary building systems, finishes, and amenities.

Phillips Sekanick Architects approached the project as both a historic preservation and hospitality design effort, balancing the character of the original structure with the needs of a modern event facility. The renewed main hall accommodates up to 175 guests for weddings, receptions, corporate events, and community gatherings, with indoor and outdoor spaces connecting the historic architecture to its rural setting.

The completed renovation has been well received. One wedding client said they were “AMAZED at the renovation of Bella Dawn,” while another described it as a “beautiful historic building.”

The project demonstrates Phillips Sekanick Architects’ experience in adaptive reuse, historic preservation, hospitality architecture, and event venue design, giving new purpose to an important local building while preserving the character that makes Bella Dawn unique.
